5 April Tanks vs The Best teams race/Manawatu Minisprint champs

With Trevors car being sold Chris fronted for the Manawatu champs ready and raring to go, well, so he thaught.

Gridding up for the first race and the throttle linkage breaks on the dumnmy grid, thus missing race 1.

Race 2 and with the throttle linkage sorted Chris was eager to get into action, however the car jumped out of gear at the diff during the warm up laps, thus ending race 2.

Race 3 and with the car finally playing the game Chris set to work on improving his rear grid passing cars left right and centre, eventually finishing around 7th place.

Dan had his Adult ministock at the meeting and had a very good 1st race finishing 15th. Race 2 and it was a very wet track to start with and got better and better during the race, however for Dan he tangled with another car and the battery decided enough was enough ending race 2.

Race 3 and after sourcing another battery and a quick trip to the referees tower he was away again and loving the track surface doing well moving up a handfull of positions until the first corner of the last lap, when the right rear axle bearing seized thus forcing the right rear axle to break sending him head first into the wall, bother.

All up a great nights racing with the tanks vs the best teams race finally going ahead after a huge effort from Scott Miers and his crew to put an engine into his tank in an hour or two. What more could promotion do other than move the race back in the night to allow Scott to get the car up and running, congratulations to the promotion team and the dedicated Miers crew.

23 March Harrisville, Ohakea

Well what a great facility Brent Harris has developed at his home in ohakea.

A great turn out of minisprints, Sprintcars, youth ministocks and a good handfull of vintage Midgets fronted for what was a fantastic enorgrial meeting at ‘Harrisville Speedway’.

With Chris away doing ‘the family thing’ the 9p minisprint was non exsistant. Trevor in the 43p minisprint was in attendance and raring to go.

Race one, and it was a good field lined up for the 1st ever minisprint race, Trevor racing very well on a new track eventually finishing in the middle of the field.

Race two, and it was not such a great race for the minisprints with a good handfull seeming to expire, which included the 43p car of Trevor Stephenson with white smoke pluming out of the exhaust, it looked terminal ending his racing for the day. Thankfully is was later found to have only blown a head gasket and the 43p car is now SOLD.

Congratulations must go out to Brent Harris and everyone who helped put on this awesome meeting, we cannot wait until next year.

8 March Minisprint Gold Cup

With a great turn out of local cars being joind by a strong field of out of towners, for the minisprints, racing was set to be hard and fast.

Trevor in the 43p minisprint had a very respectable evening, racing well with the very quick out of town cars, and ending the night on a good note with no damage and recording respectable placings of 10th, 8th and 17th in the 26 car final. On another note, the 43p car is FOR SALE, so if anyone has any inquiries, phone trevor on (06) 374 7035 wrk or (06) 374 6794 hme.

Chris in the 9p car had the car handling like a dream all night, with all the new shocks doing there job, and wasnt too far off the pace of the big budget out of towners. starting off grid 2 in the 1st heat he just did not have the pace to match the out of town cars and slipped back to 6th. Off grid 14 in heat 2 chris managed to pick up a few spots coming home in around 11th. Off grid 16 in the final he managed to bring the car home in around 10th place.

Dan also attended this meeting in his ministock. starting off grid 12 in his 1st race he raced fairly well managing to place in the top 20. off grid 22 for the 2nd race and he got all sorts of grief in turn 4 and ended up facing the wrong way, after straitening himself back up he managed to pick up a few spots finishing near the back. starting right off the back in the last race he managed to keep out of trouble and gain a few spots moving up around 8 places.

All in all a very good meeting for all that were involved, congradulations to 73k Brian Edwards for his win in the Minisprint gold cup, 10USA Ricky Logan for his win in the North Island Sprintcar champs, Wayne Hemi on his 2nd placing at the NZ champs and to the panthers for their Hat-trick of wins at both the Palmerston North Teams Champs and the Auckland Teams Nationals.

2 February, Meeanee Speedway

Mitch went up to Meeanee and did very very well racing his youth ministock.

At the end of the night he finished up 7th on Points out of around 28 cars, also managing to get the lap record in the process, well done Mitch you raced well.

26 January. 248 Global challange.

Dan attended with his ministock and after fixing the engine troubles he got tangled up the first race and sustained front end damage, ending his night once again.

On the other hand, the superstock racing was superb. Great to see the overseas drivers here and giving the NZers a very good run for there money.

19 January, Manawatu Stockcar champs

And what a great meeting it was aswell.  a huge field of stockcars made for very good racing, and viewing was very good to with more action packed racing and less ’side by side racing’.

Trevor had his minisprint and raced very well in all three races rocording very respectable finishes with 7th 14th and 8th placings.

Dan raced his ministock and had engine troubles in the 1st heat, ending his night.

Rob had his stockcar present for the Manawatu champs and after a not so great first heat he found himself changing tack in the second heat putting a ‘championship ending block on 91w Kyle Lane’ unfortunatly Rob recorded a DNF in this heat and could not make it out for the third heat.

All in all a great meeting, and congratulatoions to Rob Mason for his win.

12 January, Manawatu Sprintcar champs.

This meeting has to go down in history because this is the meeting when Dan took the reins of the 16p adult ministock for the very 1st time.  Starting from the rear of the field in each race he managed to make up around 3-4 positions in every race.  Dan now owns the car and is really enjoying finally getting to race, and absolutly loves it and as he said “its my childhood dream, and im doing it”.

5 January, Stockcar teams invasion

Well once again a great turn out of minisprints for what was to be a blistering meeting on this warm night in Palmerston North.

Race 1 and both Chris and Trevor raced well in this race both managing to keep out of trouble and finish in the middle of the pack.

Race 2 and with a very short time between races 1 and 2 thing had to be done quickly and eventually we managed to get the cars setup for the 2nd race, and the changes made seemed to be good ones with both Chris and Trevor having a great race and managing to come home in 3rd and 6th respectively.

Race 3 and with changing track conditions more changes were made to the setup of the cars. both cars were running well off the start but however in the first few laps of the race an incident occured which eliminated 3-4 cars which Chris just managed to avoid thus bringing on the yellows. After the restart the track had changed once again and both Chris and Trevor held on well with trevor placing 6th.

Rob also raced his streetstock, and we must say he looked very at home so to speak in his streetstock.  Having a great time and doing very well aswell.

A great meeting all up and some great teams racing action as well made it a very enjoyable nights racing.

On another note, santa has left Dan a very good present in the form of the keys to the 16p Adult ministock and he is just itching to give it a spin.

8th December, Panthers vs Tigers Teams Race.

With a great turn out of 19 Minisprint’s it made for what should have been a awesome nights racing , however the very poor track condition made keeping the car on all four wheels a mission in itself.

it was great to see that when we got to the track we were parked in a different area of the pits with a lot more room for all 19 cars.

Race 1 and it was a pretty uneventful race with the guys trying to get used to the rough track condition, Chris managed to finish 7th in this race with Trevor right behind in 8th.

Race 2 and the pace of the race was lifted a notch with everyone getting used to the track, and all the guys did well to have a clean smooth race without any incidents as it was not easy with the blistering pace and a rough track, Chris finished 4th and Trevor had another 8th.

Race 3 and the rough track finally played its hand and played a large part in the cause of an incident which reduced the field by 4-5 cars, thankfuly both Chris and Trevor managed to avoid this and finished 6th and 4th respectively.

Sean had a good night in the 16p adult ministock with the car going well but copped suspension damage in the 2nd race. Rob in the 89p stockcar went well with the engine troubles from last weekend looking to have been cured.

Congratulations to the Panthers on their successful teams race victory over the Nelson Tigers, also it is great to see that you can now view each cars fastest lap of each race via the Robertson Holden International Speedway website.

Meeting 7

After a week long hustle changing setup and sorting out engine gremlins with the 9p Minisprint we finally made it to the track at 5:30pm just managing to get a park.

Race 1 and Chris was off grid 2 and he strait away shot into the lead of the race with the engine gremlins and setup issues of last weekend seeming to have dissapeared with the car showing great pace and handling well passing cars left right and center until and incident with another car on the last turn doing substantial front end damage and ending race 1 proceedings. Race 2 and with the car patched up with spares we did not have time to reset the setup and this caused the car to be a bit more of a handful for Chris but with the car still showing great pace he managed to bring the car home in the top five. Race 3 and after sorting out the minor setup issues Chris initially was off of the front row but after jumping the start was sent to the back row of the field still managing to get up to fourth position before the throttle jammed fully open going into the turn, just managing to keep it off the concrete he pulled to the safety of the infield.

All in all despite the damage Chris is extremely happy with the way the car went.

Trevor in the 43p Minisprint had a fairly good night finishing well in race 1 although in race 2 the right rear decided to go pop, ending that race. Race 3 and going very well until he had no where to and ploughed into the back of a rapidly slowing car.

Repairs are now well underway on both Minisprints for the next meeting. We must congratulate firstly the Palmy promotion for the successful race format used for the minisprints, and secondly the Pumas for their successful teams race victory over the Wellington Young Guns.

Mitch raced his ministock and started 25Th and came in 20Th with a DNF in the other races.

Robin is progressing well with his saloon and hopes to have it racing in the new year.
